A Jefferson County man was sentenced a week ago, to federal prison on methamphetamine related charges, according to Stephen R. Wigginton, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois.  42-year old Alvin Gene Chelf, of Bonnie, Illinois, was sentenced to nearly 18 years in federal prison, to be followed by six years of supervised release and fined $400.  The Court sentenced Chelf as a Career Offender due to Chelf’s previous criminal history.  He had pleaded guilty to two counts in a federal indictment, with one count on February 14, 2013, in Jefferson County, Illinois, that Chelf knowingly and intentionally distributed methamphetamine, and a second count that charged that on February 19, 2013, in Jefferson County, Chelf knowingly and intentionally distributed methamphetamine.   The investigation in this case was conducted by the Joint Narcotics Unit of the Mount Vernon Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.
