The Washington County Hospital Board of Trustees met last night and they learned about HIPAA or Health Information Portability and Accountability of Act, as Chief Executive Officer Nancy Newby said this was something needed to keep in compliance with HIPAA’s regulations.  There was a presentation made through an internet source that explained that all patients’ health information must be kept private.  It also explained how this is to be done, especially with records being kept electronically or digitally.  Newby said all new employees go through this training and there is other training or refreshing as needed and required.  She also announced that the Health Fair will be on May 14th from 7 to 10 AM and more information will be forthcoming.  She did mention that they will be doing lab work again this year, which begins at 6:30 and runs for an hour.  Chief Financial Officer Elaine Matzenbacher reported that numbers were down and below estimate in many, if not all, categories.  There were 18 admissions, while 26 were anticipated, and 10 less than February 2013.  Patient days was at 893, which was over 100 less than anticipated, while being nearly 90  less than last February.  Outpatient visits was 200 than budgeted with 2,463.  That is 1 more than last February.  Emergency room visits was well below the anticipated 250, with only 162 this year, while there were 197 last February.  Surgery was also down from an anticipated 43 to 37 actual surgeries.  That is actually 4 more than last February.  The year to date numbers for all of those categories is below budgeted, except for outpatient visits, which are approximately 1,800 more than anticipated.  Also, February’s income was down at $1,563, but that is still better than the losses in 2 of the last 4 months.  For the year to date, there is a positive income of $208,473.  They tabled Board Committee appointments for next month, but the Board did approve the officers for the next fiscal year.  They will be Dale Blohm (bloom) as Board Chairman, Diane Nottmeyer as 1st Vice Chair, Audrey Finke as 2nd Vice Chair, Greg Engele as Treasurer and Victor Lopez as Secretary.
