The Illinois Department of Employment Security has released the results of the February unemployment rates and there was plenty of movement as other parts of the state had higher rates than usual. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for the state is at 8.7 percent. The nation’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is at 6.7. Counties in southern Illinois experienced increases, but again aren’t the highest rates in the state anymore. The seasonally unadjusted numbers for Washington County are at 7.5 percent, up from 7.3 percent in January. It is the 4th lowest unemployment rate in the state. Jefferson County remained at 9.1 percent from November through last month. Clinton went up from 9.1 percent to 9.5, a significant increase. Perry County remained the same at 12.3 for February and still has the 7th highest unemployment percentage in the state. Marion County went up from 11.3 to 11.8 and now has the 12th worst rate in the state for the month of February, where it had been the 17th worst percentage in January. Randolph County is at 9.6 percent last month, which is up from 9.2, while Saint Clair County remained at 9.9 percent unemployment for February.
