The Washington County Board met last night and County Highway Engineer Mitch Burdick presented a resolution to accept bids for Motor Fuel Tax Oil and Bituminous Materials.  There was only 1 bid of $1.96 per gallon of liquid oil from Don Anderson Company of Hoffman for $98,000.  Burdick says that is low, as it was $2.02 last year and $2.12 the previous year.  He says it could well be the 2nd lowest of any county in the state.  Also, there were 4 bidders for the road materials for the county, Doelling Truck Service out of Addieville had the low bid at $40 per ton for 1,800 tons for a total of $72,000.  This resolution was approved.  Burdick then told the Board that the Stone Church Bridge project is 50 percent done and should be open in mid-May.  The resurfacing of County Highway 13 project is 15 percent completed and should be done in late May.  They have been making road repairs on county roads as the harsh winter damaged them.  Also, flooding is becoming an issue and they have had to deal with washouts.  The 1st mowing will be in the 1st week of May.  He added that they should have their computers switched to Windows XP or new computers in by the end of the month, as older versions of Windows will not be supported anymore.  Building Committee Chair Gary Suedmeyer said the computers in the county offices will all be up and running on Windows XP by next week, as they can only do it unit by unit, not all computers at one time per office.  Dr. Jay Colbrook made a presentation to the Board on how the Animal Control is doing.  He said Jane Reuter is out there working with 3 assistants that rotate shifts.  The shelter is open Mondays through Saturdays from 8 AM to 1 PM with emergency hours afterwards.  The rabies clinic schedule for the beginning of May has been released with 18 stops in 3 days.  He says the truck is getting a strobe type light on top, so it will be better seen.  Also, the building has some leaks, so they will be having someone come out and fix that.  County Clerk Tom Ganz says they are having theIR new land recording system installed now.  There was a delay, as another County was not able to do any recording due to needing a system installed, so Washington County waited.  He said the old system was out of date and not supported anymore.  The new system costs approximately $60,000 less.  This will be of no cost to the county, as it is paid for through recording fees his office collects.  The County Supervisor of Assessments was not able to attend the meeting as planned.  There were several appointments to various committees or boards presented and all were approved, including to Fire District Boards, Brett Roe to Addieville, Robert Fox reappointed to Coulterville, Robert Reuter reappointed to Hoyleton, Joel Coltis reappointed to Irvington, Jeff Rabenort reappointed to Okawville and Melvin Paul reappointed to Tilden.  Donna Gail was appointed to the Washington County Planning Commission, Gary Reynolds was appointed to the Washington County Board of Review, Rhett Renken was reappointed to the Washington County – Nashville Enterprise Zone and Michael Curry was reappointed to the Southern Illinois Economic Development.  J.W. Metcalf has been reappointed to the Washington County Hospital Board, but as he did not want to be on that Board anymore, this will only be until someone else comes forward and is approved.
