A Mascoutah lawyer and former Republican Saint Clair County Board candidate is facing marijuana trafficking charges in two counties.  49-year old Scott A. Hassebrock was charged with unlawful cannabis trafficking and unlawful possession with the intent to deliver cannabis in Saint Clair County and one charge of marijuana manufacturing in Montgomery County yesterday.  Hassebrock’s bail in Saint Clair County was set at $100,000.  He is in the Montgomery County Jail on $20,000 bail.  Saint Clair County Sheriff’s Department drug tactical agents began watching Hassebrock’s house in Mascoutah several weeks ago after receiving information of illegal drug sales, according to Lt. Kurt Eversman, drug tactical unit supervisor.  In the Saint Clair County charges, prosecutors allege Hassebrock drove to California to get more than 2,500 grams of marijuana to sell in Illinois.  When he returned to the Metro-East, drug tactical investigators followed Hassebrock from Mascoutah to Witt in Montgomery County.  He was arrested by the South Central Drug Task Force after delivering about a quarter pound of marijuana in Witt.  On Wednesday, the drug officer conducted a search of Hassebrock’s home in Mascoutah and recovered about five pounds of marijuana.
