Yesterday, 2 men from Tilden, Illinois, 41-year old Stephen P. Salzwedel, also known as “Steak,” and 27-year old Tony G. Carle, were sentenced in United States District Court in Benton on a one-count indictment charging conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Illinois.  Salzwedel and Carle, who had both previously pled guilty to the methamphetamine offense, were sentenced to prison terms of nearly 12 and 10 years, respectively.  They were each fined $200 and placed on 3 years’ supervised release.  The offense occurred between 2012 and April 2013 in Perry, Randolph and Jackson Counties.  Evidence at the plea and sentencing hearings established that the two were involved with others in the manufacture of methamphetamine.  They purchased pseudoephedrine, themselves, and collected pseudoephedrine from others to use in cooking methamphetamine.  At sentencing, the district judge found that they were responsible for obtaining over 72 grams of pseudoephedrine. Salzwedel and Carle also received enhanced sentences because there was a minor involved in the offense.
