The Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to approximately 15 calls this past week with 3 of them assisting a motorist and only 1 accident.  Calls included assisting the Okawville Police on Interstate 64 near mile marker 39 in the arrest of 34-year old Larry D. Givens of Saint Louis, Missouri on a DUI.  They removed debris from State Route 127 north of Walnut Hill, took 45-year old Brenda Willstead of Okawville into custody for a failure to appear warrant out of Bureau County, Illinois.  There were reports of identity theft, removed a dead dear from I-64 in the westbound lanes and assisted the Saint Clair County Sheriff’s Office with a criminal damage to property complaint in rural Okawville.  On Friday, they investigated the theft of water from the Village of DuBois.  It had been turned off at a residence for late payment, but the unnamed resident turned it back on at the Village owned meter.  There was no mention of any charges.  They investigated a report of property damage at a rural Ashley residence. On Saturday they assisted a person at Washington County State Lake by providing him with transportation.  On Friday, they responded to an accident on the 17,500 block of State Route 177 for a one-vehicle accident.  According to the report, 20-year old Amanda Howie of Hoyleton was driving and had the accident and had to be airlifted to Saint Louis University Hospital.  She was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident and Failure to Wear a Seatbelt.
