The Oakdale Grade School Board of Education met Monday night.  Superintendent Ryan Wamser said they received a $30,000 maintenance grant from the State, which is a matching grant, so they put up $30,000 as well.  They will install some doors that have automatic opening and closing.  It will create a fire corridor, which will make the school safer.  Also, they will install new water fountains and possibly a new boiler system.  They have other maintenance grants that will be completed soon, including putting up exterior lights as well as fixing and resurfacing the parking lot this summer.  He said they also approved a 2-year contract with Scheffel-Boyle out of Fairview Heights to do the school’s auditing.  The Board also approved the school to seek bids for transportation, as Voges Transportation out of Coulterville will not be available next year.  The company is cutting back on their Saint Libory and Oakdale routes and contracts, while keeping the Coulterville and Steeleville routes.  Oakdale hopes to find someone local.  The Board also regretfully accepted a letter of resignation from 3rd and 4th grade teacher, Karen Stein, who is retiring.  Wamser says he and the Board thanked her for many years her service to the school and wish her well in her retirement.  He then talked about the big community event and fundraiser sponsored by the parents’ association called the Oakdale Community Education Association.  It will feature a concert at 6:30 on May 2nd and then the games begin, as they will have raffles, a live auction, a silent auction, a cakewalk and games in the classrooms for the kids.  It is a big fundraiser and fun event and Wamser hopes they get a big turnout this year.  School ends on May 30th and Graduation will be on May 27th at 7 PM in the gym for the 7 eighth graders.
