The westbound lanes of Interstate 64 were closed yesterday morning, until about noon after a tractor trailer slammed into an overpass at Billhartz Road or mile marker 32, killing the two people in the cab, according to the Illinois State Police.  According to the Belleville News Democrat, Illinois State Trooper Calvin Dye reported the driver was 27-year old Alex Delgado of Key West, Florida and 54-year old Melvin C. Lewis of Opa Locka, Florida was the passenger.  The men were working for a trucking company out of Florida.  According to the report, Delgado swerved into the left lane, overcorrected and then struck the concrete bridge support, and according to eye witnesses, the truck was weaving all over the roadway.  Lewis was ejected from the tractor-trailer’s sleeper cabin and was trapped under the truck.  They reported the accident occurred shortly before 6 AM.  A large debris field could be seen strewn across the interstate.  The highway was re-opened after the overpass was inspected, the debris cleared and the on-scene investigation completed.
