The Washington County Sheriff’s Office received a couple of calls from residents about possible scam telephone calls.  A week ago, an Addieville resident reported that he had received several telephone calls from an unidentified male caller with a Middle Eastern accent, stating that he was with “Windows” computer company and needed access to the person’s computer.  The Sheriff reminds citizens that Microsoft does not solicit business and this is most likely a scam.  It is true that last month several Windows operating systems were no longer supported by Microsoft, but they do not call about it.  On Friday, there was a resident from Richview who reported a telephone message from a male subject, stating that he was with the Internal Revenue Service.  He said action would be taken, if the message was not returned immediately.  He returned the message and spoke to a male person, who advised the Richview resident that a 7-year audit had been conducted and he owed $35,000 to the IRS.  Anyone receiving such calls are encouraged to call the Washington County Sheriff’s Office or any other local authority.
