The Irvington Grade School Board of Education met Monday night and Superintendent Dave Schulte said graduation is on May 30th at 7 PM for the 10 graduating 8th graders and the last day of school is that same day with a 2 o’clock dismissal. He talked to the Board about Senate Bill 16, which is a funding formula for schools. If this is passed, Irvington would receive about $68,000 in additional funding, but he isn’t too sure it will come to pass. He will begin working on the Fiscal Year 2015 Budget for the school. They will receive the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Grant for next year. It provides fresh fruit and vegies for the students outside of the normal lunchtime. Speaking of food, the school will do some work and make upgrades in the kitchen to the sink and cabinets. QNS will be brought in to upgrade the computer firewall and some other minor things for the school security. Earlier this month, Environmental Consultants out of Collinsville performed the 3-year asbestos re-inspection. Schulte says everything is fine and there are a couple of things they need to leave alone, such as some ceiling and floor tiling in some inaccessible areas of the school. If there is a problem, they would have the school replace it. They will keep their sports co-op with North Wamac for 2015-2016 year in all their sports, except volleyball. Barb Mueller was re-appointed as Treasurer for the next year. She gets paid $600 per year for coming in when needed every month to reconcile the bank statements and related work. The Board approved the continuation of a 2 PM dismissal on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month for staff development. He also said they approved a 3-year contract with the Irvington Education Association, but wanted to wait until the contract is signed next month to give the details of it. Schulte also said the United Church of Christ in Irvington wrote a grant and received some funds, some of which they are donating to the school for chimes or hand bells. They are looking to get a group of students together to learn to play and there will a chime camp this summer at the school. There is a 160-year celebration at Fortmeyer Park on July 16th that they want the students to perform at.
