The Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees met Monday night in Vandalia for the regular monthly meeting and the approved a resolution to proceed with PHS pedestrian bridge improvements-culvert repairs as well as a resolution to proceed with PHS Vocational Area HVAC Upgrades. They approved a resolution for the purchase of microscopes for the Trenton Education Center to Sheerin Scientific of Lenox, Kansas in the amount of $26,131.92. The Board also approved the purchase of Trainers for the Automotive Technology Program. Updates were made on renovation and relocation efforts at the Agricultural Education Center and the Crisp Technology Center. Work is ongoing at the AEC, in preparation for equipping the facility and starting classes in Fall 2014. All the subfloor has now been laid and next step will be the vinyl floor installation. The vinyl is expected to be completed by the end of June. Drop ceilings in five classrooms are being rewired and rehung, along with additional lighting in classrooms where walls were removed. Other work includes exterior work, but plans are to begin classes in the building for the start of the fall semester. Meanwhile, the relocation of faculty and staff at the Crisp Technology Center has already begun, as the Business and Industry Department has now moved to the Workforce Center. The HVAC Program is 75% moved to the powdercoat warehouse that is being rented near the airport. In the near future, the Industrial Technology Program will be moved temporarily to the Agricultural Education Center. Next week, Welding will begin moving to Trenton, where all welding classes will be held through the fall semester. The Carpentry program will relocate within the building and remain there during construction. The Annual Cosmetology Blood Drive that was held at the end of April collected a total of 105 units donated. The next blood drive scheduled June 26th.
