Hunters killed more than 13,500 wild turkeys during the spring season that just ended, but, the preliminary numbers were down about 600 from the previous year, but not in Washington County. According to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, the highest numbers were recorded in the far northwest section of the state. The top county in the southern part of the state was Jefferson, with about 399 turkeys, 2nd in the state. Randolph County was 4th with 326. Washington County had 142 kills this year, up 9 from last year, while Clinton County had 81 this year, up 1 from last year. Marion County had 298 kills this year, down from 344 last year.
