There is plenty of construction and business growth in Nashville and another building will be going up this summer.  The Nashville City Council met a week ago and approved $908,069 for a new 18,000 square foot Street Department Shed by Kaskaskia and 3rd Streets.  The current ones are old and small for what is needed with all the vehicles, equipment and materials.  Andy Curry of Curry & Associates is the City Engineer for Nashville and talked about the current buildings, which can’t house all the city vehicles, is not heated, doesn’t have a concrete floor and leaks.  They have outlived their usefulness to the city.  He got together with Street Department Supervisor Rich Schuette to design something useful.  He says it is a typical pole barn design with a wood frame with metal siding and roof, metal interior walls and it will be fully insulated.  It will also have a wash basin for cleaning the vehicles and equipment before parking them in the other end of the building.  There will be more office and people space, including a conference room for training and safety meetings.  There are plans to expand the internet through the building.  There is a locker room area and something else special, which is a men’s and women’s bathroom, even though there is not a female worker in the department, they are planning for the future.  There plenty of tools and materials that will also be housed in the building that weren’t before, so this can save money on replacement cost.  The low and winning bid was from Lake Contracting Incorporated out of Addieville and Curry said they will also subcontracting locally.  Currently, the city is doing some of the work to get the site prepared for construction.  Construction of the building could begin within another couple of weeks and it could be done before the end of the year.  Outside concrete work will need to be done.  Curry says the city plans to do this work, but might contract out if they don’t have enough time.
