Tomorrow is the Washington County Relay for Life to raise funds to fight cancer and it will be held at the Nashville Primary School on the parking lot in back.  Co-Chairperson Nancy Newby explains the change from May to June for the event, saying they have had bad luck with weather through the years with it cold or raining or storming and even a tornado one year and they felt it was just made it difficult.  She adds that May is also a busy time of the year with school getting out, graduation and Mother’s Day, the organization felt they were losing people.  This year’s theme is Stars & Stripes for a Cure.  It begins at 5 PM and runs for 12 hours.  The Survivor’s Lap begins at 5 o’clock and there will also be a lap for caregivers and one for veterans.  The opening ceremony will have the presentation of the flags, including the local Scouts, as well as a 21 gun salute.  Entertainment will be provided by Jamie’s Tumbling, Sonya’s Gotta Dance, Rhythm Effects Dance.  The Luminaria begins at 8:30 and it will feature the lighting of the candles and the names of those who have survived cancer and those who have not.  Afterwards there will be music from the Flat Earth Band.  Newby says there will be plenty of food and drink throughout the night, all of which helps teams raise money.  Bows and Luminarias can still be purchased tomorrow night.  This year’s goal is to raise $70,000 as they passed the $1 million mark a couple years ago.  Newby says the American Cancer Society keeps the money local as well.  For more information or to register a team, visit their website, relayforlife.org/washingtoncountyil.
