The Washington County Hospital Board of Directors met Tuesday night for the 2nd meeting in a row, the Board Chairperson resigned.  First it was Dale Blohm, who had been on the Board for 16 years and now his replacement, Diane Nottmeyer, has resigned.  1st Vice Chair, J.W. Metcalf moved up to Chairman, while Victor Lopez moves up from 2nd Vice Chair to 1st Vice Chair.  Matt Bierman becomes 2nd Vice Chair, while Audrey Finke remains Secretary and Greg Engele remains Treasurer.  The Board then went over the financial statements.  Chief Financial Officer Elaine Matzenbacher says the numbers from the month of June are the 2nd in the Fiscal Year 2015.  Numbers in nearly all categories were again up from expectations.  There were 22 admissions, exactly what was budgeted, but 5 less than in May and 1 less than last June.  Patient days was at 994, more than the 972 budgeted and 8 more than last June, but 75 less than the previous month.  Outpatient visits was down considerably from the 3,000 that were anticipated at 2,413, which was less than the 2,934 in June 2013, while also down 424 from this May.  Emergency room visits was at 222, less than the anticipated 238 and 11 less than last June, while 14 less than in May.  There were 57 surgeries, which was 14 more than budgeted and 15 more than last June and in May 2014.  When looking at the year-to-date, all categories are above expectations, except emergency room visits, which is down 17.  The hospital made a profit of $89,857 for last month and is more than the $14,654 anticipated and more than the $98,193 loss in June 2013.  With the previous month’s profit and June’s, the hospital is at $112,107.  So, the year keeps going in the right direction.  The Board approved the financial report.  She also talked about 2 ordinances the Board approved, which are yearly bits of business, as the one is a request to the Washington County Board for their part of the Real Estate Taxes and it lays out how the money would go to various areas.  The other ordinance is the actual moving the funds to those areas, such as FICA tax, worker’s comp and general benefits.  The total from last year’s taxes for the hospital is $361,000.  President and Chief Executive Officer Nancy Newby was not at the meeting due to a death in the family, so Matzenbacher told the Board about some points of interest.  One was about the Telepsych services, which is where a patient will come to the hospital at a specific time and link up with a doctor or psychiatrist through a monitor or television screen for the visit, instead of traveling long distances.  The hospital wanted to have this up and running, but they are still waiting for the government to approve the credentials of the doctors for the service, so it isn’t available yet.  Also, she says Dr. Ginger Fewell completed her computer training last week and began seeing patients on Tuesday.
