The West Washington County Community Unit School District #10 Board of Education met Thursday night. Superintendent Scott Fuhrhop says they will be working on the concession stand out by the ball fields the first couple weekends in September. They will also be purchasing a 24 foot by 48 foot greenhouse that will be located in the back of the school. The school recently received a greenhouse grant in the amount of $10,000 and they already had $10,000 set aside for this project. They already had one round of registration, but will have another couple of days next week. Fuhrhop says this is to allow those who missed the first 2 days because of vacation, the ability to register. School will start on August 15th with a 1:30 PM dismissal. The Board accepted the resignation of 6th Grade teacher Crystal Brooks, as well as the hiring of Beau Barkau to replace her. He will also be the 8th grade basketball coach. They also hired Christy Hood to be the girls’ golf coach, as she is already a 3rd grade teacher. Cheerleading coach Jenna Beckmann resigned and was also approved of maternity leave. There will be subs to take her place as an aide, until she returns, but no one has been hired to replace her as cheerleading coach yet. The Board also approved of the list of support personnel for the school year. Something they always have to wait to do until the funding comes through during the summer. Fuhrhop says they have had power surges this past school year and Ameren is going to monitor their situation for the next 6 months to find the problem and fix it.
