Labor Day weekend is next weekend and that is also the time for the 23rd Annual Great Kaskaskia River Duck Event at the Lake Carlyle Dam at the West Spillway Recreation Area.  Gay Zurliene is the Executive Director of Healthcare Foundation, who benefits from this fundraising event.  She says individual ducks can be purchased at Community Trust Bank, Farmers & Merchants Bank and Regions Bank, all in Nashville, as well as Farmers State Bank and Farmers & Merchants Bank, both in Hoyleton and Community Trust Bank in Irvington.  You can also call her to get your ducks.  They are $5 each or 6 for the price of 5.  There are also 3 Quack Packs that have a certain number of ducks, shirts and other items.  The winning duck receives $5,000, while there are 9 other great prizes.  She says they help those in Clinton, Jefferson, Marion and Washington Counties that need a helping hand.  Basically they provide anything in relation to healthcare and this can also be helping food pantries, but Zurliene works with social workers and Washington County Public Health and anyone in the medical or healthcare field.  They try to answer the need at any time and some things are bigger than others.  But she says, none of it could be possible without the Duck Race and they need your help.  In the past, the weather didn’t cooperate and there wasn’t enough or too much water in the race area, so they had it on dry land, and that is the case again this year, as there is work going on in the area that prevents them from using it at Carlyle Lake.  For more information on getting ducks or about the Healthcare Foundation, call Zurliene at 618-526-0080.
