Kaskaskia College is announcing the creation of the Matthew A. Hellmann Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship has been established in memory of Matthew, who left this world on July 4, 2014. Matthew’s strong work ethic was instilled by his parents, Randy and Lisa Hellmann. Working to pay for his education, Matthew successfully earned his Associate’s Degree in Arts and transferred to Greenville College where he was pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in social work. A check creating the scholarship was presented to KC President Dr. Jim Underwood by Stephen and Patricia Rensing. An applicant must have a high school diploma, must reside in Kaskaskia District #501, must have at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average and must be enrolled a minimum of 6 credit hours. An applicant must submit a personal letter indicating educational and life goals and include need for this scholarship. This scholarship will be for the amount of $500 and will be credited to the recipient’s account at Kaskaskia College and is restricted to tuition, fees and books purchased through the Kaskaskia College Bookstore.
