The Mount Vernon Police Department is investigating reports of two shootings that took place early Friday morning.  Authorities responded at approximately 3:30 AM to the 4100 block of Willow Springs after receiving a call reporting the sound of multiple gunshots near the apartment complex.  While officers were checking the area and others arrived at the complex, the caller reported being shot twice in the leg.  Police confirm a woman suffered a non-life threatening leg injury from a gunshot that police say was intentionally fired from outside her home.  A parked vehicle outside the residence also took gun fire.  A second report of shots fired came in a short time later in the 400 block of South 17th Street.  Police say no one was injured in the second incident, but bullets did strike a house.  Police don’t have any suspects in either incident, and an investigation is ongoing.  If you have any information regarding the shootings, call the Mount Vernon Police Department Detective Division at 242-2131 or the Jefferson County Crime Stoppers at 242-8477.
