The Okawville Village Board met Monday night and Clerk Wayland Jasper says they are getting ready for the Wheat Festival next month. They approved streets to be closed for the Kaskaskia College 5K -10K Run – Walk Harvest Hustle on Saturday, September 13th during the Wheat Festival. Proceeds from the Hustle will benefit the extension center in Nashville. They then agreed to pay the City of Nashville no more than $750 to clean up the streets before and after the festival. The Board also approved a resolution recognizing the Murray Developmental Center’s 50th anniversary. The Board passed an ordinance allowing out lots to be used for setback purposes only on property. Building is not permitted on this area though. It will just allow for extra space on the lots. They approved a reimbursement of no more than $2,500 to the Senior Center to defray costs for the replacement of the double doors on the north side of the kitchen. The Board approved the renewal of employee health insurance coverage with Blue Cross Blue Shield through Jane Dick. Jasper says there are no changes in coverage and no increases. Jasper says the Board approved vacating Ellen Street after all interested parties have been notified and responded and allocations have been made, all incurred costs will be paid by the property owners. The street that runs from Front Street to Elkton Street, which is about 50 feet long and has never been owned by anyone. This gives someone that street the chance to buy it a legal cost. He says it is a residential area, but also has a church on it.
