The Nashville High School Board of Education met last night and got some information on Illinois Vision 20/20. Superintendent Wendy Davis says it is a grassroots effort throughout the state to make education in Illinois the best it can be for the students and there have been several meetings for superintendents to attend to learn more. She says it is broken down into four areas, which includes having highly effective educators and also 21st Century learning. This deals with having students knowing more than just math and reading and commit to the whole child. This includes using 21st Century tools, such as technology and whatever else can be used to teach the students and have them prepared for the world we live in to be successful. The 3rd emphasis is on shared accountability. That deals with looking at what is currently being done to make sure educators are accountable for what students are learning. The final point is on equitable and adequate funding. The state has been looking at different ways to fund schools and changing the funding formula for the last 15 to 20 years. There has been all kinds of research done to fairly and equitably fund schools in the state. The Board will review their information and decide if they want to adopt a resolution to support Vision 20/20 at the next meeting.
