The Ashley Grade School Board of Education met Monday night and authorized Superintendent Brian Hodge to spend up to $1,000 to upgrade a public address system in the gym. He says they have had several complaints that people cannot hear the speaker. They have been told they probably need a couple more speakers, just to make sure that people can hear when they have their activities and events in the gym. They approved the district to continue to have a line of credit with Farmers & Merchants Bank. The Board also authorized Hodge to advertise for 2 teaching positions. He will advertise within the school first, but then open it up to the public if no one is interested. Math, Science and Physical Education teacher Julie Wilcox and Social Studies teacher Joe Lukasik are retiring at the end of June 2015. The current enrollment is at 152 students, up one from the previous month. There will be another fundraiser tonight at the Lantern Pub from 4 to 8 PM with a percentage of the profits going to Ashley Grade School for the Accelerated Reader Program and technology needs. Friday is the last day of school and classes resume on January 5, 2015.
