The Nashville High School Board of Education met Monday night and approved of the hiring of Ernie Fowler to be the new Superintendent from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2018, as Wendy Davis will be retiring on June 30, 2015.  Fowler has been Superintendent of Sangamon Valley Consolidated Unit School District #9 in central Illinois, which has over 750 students in kindergarten through 12th Grade.  He says they are located between Decatur and Springfield.  He came from Eldorado originally.  He talked about his experience, starting at Galatia as a guidance counselor, junior high physical education teacher and basketball coach.  He then became Principal at the Junior – Senior High School.  He then got a call from Ziegler-Royalton to be their Superintendent.  His call came from Hardin County in Elizabethtown to be Superintendent.  He has spent the last 7 years at Sangamon Valley.  He liked Nashville as soon as he visited, as it is similar in size to some places he grew up and has worked before.  He says he did some research on the district and found the success and stability make it a great school.  It seems that the kids exceed in everything they do and he is fascinated by that.  He believes his job will be to keep that success going, so he says who wouldn’t want to come to Nashville and he is quite honored that he was selected by the Board.  One of the biggest concerns for schools is budgeting and Fowler talked about addressing that at NCHS, as he thinks every school district will have to look at the state funding picture, which doesn’t look like it’s going to get any better.  He believes the school will have to remain conservative, make sure the kids have what they need, but try to get the biggest band for the buck, which is how he has always approached things.  His wife Jolene still teaches in Hardin County, but is close to retirement there.  They have 2 sons and a grandson.
