The 20-year old Aviston man charged earlier this week with forcible sexual assault appeared in Clinton County court yesterday morning, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. The defense attorney for Jacob Kriegel filed a demand for a jury trial in the case in which his client is charged with three counts Class 1 felony criminal sexual assault with force. Public Defender Stewart Freeman also filed a motion to reduce his client’s bond from $75,000. Kriegel is accused of three forcible sex acts, along with 18-year old Zackary Schilling, of Centralia, against a female victim while in a vehicle in rural Clinton County Sunday. The female was taken to Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Breese for treatment of injuries and the alleged incident was then reported to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department. In addition to the sexual assault case, Kriegel appeared in court on a 2013 battery conviction, for which the state seeks to have the probation sentence revoked. In October 2013 Kriegel pleaded guilty in that case, agreeing to serve 18 months of probation, abstain from illegal drugs and alcohol, as well as to have no contact with the victim or her family and to serve two weekends in the Clinton County jail.
