The Hoyleton Grade School Board of Education met Thursday night and Superintendent Elaine Hemker says the Board passed the Tax Levy at 4.99 percent. As it was under 5 percent, there was no truth in taxation hearing needed. If they receive the full 4.99 percent, it will be approximately $23,000 additional funds. They had an open discussion about their decision to dissolve the school district and annex with Nashville Grade School. They went through the pros and cons, as well as went over misinformation that is circulating. There should be a notice in the newspaper on December 24, 2014 for a public hearing on February 9, 2015 at 6:30 PM at the Washington County Courthouse. The citizens looking to get a petition together to halt the Board’s action have 45 days from December 24th to get everything together and submit it by February 7, 2015. Currently they are trying to get 51 percent of the registered voters of that school district to sign the petition. There are 4 seats on the Board that are up and that includes Mark Haveck, Sandy Martin, Debbie Beckmeyer and Krys Schnitker. School resumes Monday, January 5, 2015.
