The Mount Vernon Police Department issued a statement yesterday about a shooting over the weekend.  At approximately 2 AM Sunday morning, the MVPD received a report that a male subject, who had been shot, was being transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon by private vehicle.  The report indicated the subject had been shot while on a parking lot in the area of Salem Road and George Street in Mount Vernon.  Patrol officers made contact with the victim and called in their detectives and a Crime Scene Technician to assist with the investigation.  The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office secured the victims vehicle for evidentiary processing.  During the investigation detectives identified 20-year old Ashton D Trotter as the offender.  Patrol officers and detectives responded to Trotter’s residence on the 800 block of Apricot, in Mount Vernon.  Upon receiving the search warrant, officers entered the residence where Trotter surrendered to a Mount Vernon Police K-9 unit shortly before 11 AM.  Trotter has been charged with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm.
