A Mount Vernon man was killed in a 2-vehicle accident on Friday morning.  The Washington County Coroner’s office was notified of a motor vehicle accident at 7:05 AM just north of Nashville.  52-year old George O. Phillips was the driver of a northbound vehicle on State Route 127 that crossed the centerline and struck a southbound semi-tractor trailer truck.  The accident occurred between Enterprise Avenue and Mockingbird Road.  Phillips was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at 7:16 AM by Coroner Mark Styninger.  There were no other occupants in Phillips’ vehicle and the semi-truck driver was not injured.  Phillips was on his way to work at Republic of Tea which was just blocks from the accident.  Toxicology tests were performed by Coroner Styninger, there will not be an autopsy.  The accident continues to be investigated by the Nashville Police Department, Illinois State Police and the Washington County Coroner’s office.
