The West Washington County Community Unit District #10 Board of Education had a Truth in Taxation Hearing on the Tax Levy on Thursday night and then approved it later in the regular Board meeting. Superintendent Scott Fuhrhop says it is at 8.1 percent. They were looking at doing something different at 8th Grade graduation, as the students are not really going anywhere, staying the same building, and maybe have something more of an award and promotion night, but they decided not to change anything for this year. Fuhrhop reported to the Board that there was a manufacture problem with the chair seat bleachers and that was fixed, so it works correctly. The school received a grant to purchase a new A.E.D. machine, which is a defibulator, to be used in the outside concession stand area. He also talked about the new Okawville Mid-Winter Basketball Tournament and who is in it, which starts January 20th through the 25th and it includes Okawville, Madison, Waterloo Gibault, Wesclin and Vandalia. It is a round robin basketball tournament. There was one suspension of a student and the hiring of Cameron Obermeier as a volunteer high school girls basketball coach. There are 3 seats on the Board with terms expiring and being voted on in April. This includes Ron Recker, Dale Lake and Heather Todd. School starts again on Monday, January 5, 2015.
