On Friday afternoon, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was notified that a gas line has been struck in the DuBois area in a field north of DuBois. Ameren spokesperson, Victoria Busch, said this caused approximately 400 Ameren gas customers to be without gas in the DuBois, Waltonville and Bonnie areas. It was reported that a contractor doing work, dug down into a main gas line. Ameren personnel were able to close off the gas line and secure the area in about 15 minutes. Crews worked through the night to repair the line and most customers were on by 11 AM on Saturday with the rest to follow. Residents needed to be at home for the Ameren personnel to come and re-light the gas in the residence. This is not something you can do. So if you have been gone all weekend, be sure to call Ameren at 800-755-5000. The longer the heat is off in these temperatures, the more of a chance of frozen pipes.
