There was a fire in Okawville on Monday night on the 100 block of Washington Avenue. Okawville Fire Chief Jim Russell says they got the call at 8 PM and were clearing out a couple of hours later. He said Mickey Cooper and her children were at home, but got out of the house and no one was injured. The fire is believed to have begun in the add-on bathroom and could be electrical, but it is currently under investigation. The house is still structurally sound, Russell said, but there is plenty of water damage. The Addieville and Saint Libory Fire Departments assisted on the scene. The American Red Cross volunteers responded to the fire to ensure that everyone affected has a safe place to stay, food, clothing and emotional support. They are currently assisting Cooper and her three children.
