At the end of last month, the City of Nashville held their annual Gas Emergency Plan Meeting.  Utility Superintendent Blaine Middleton talked about why all area first responders were invited.  They do this to make sure they are all on the same page if a major disaster happens, then they all know how to respond and their position that they are going to take.  Communication was the theme for this year, especially between the departments, officials and emergency responders.  Middleton also reminds residents to be careful when digging this spring.  If you are going to be digging in the city or anywhere for that matter, you never know if there is a natural gas line, service line, electric line or water and you need to be calling JULIE.  Dial 811.  They’ll ask you for information of where you are digging, location and what kind of work is being done.  They will then contact all the utilities to come out to locate and mark these lines for you.  He says this way you don’t hit one of the lines and destroy them or even hurt yourself.
