The Oakdale Grade School Board of Education met Monday night and Superintendent Charles Peterson says they are down 3 students to 78 for this month. He also reported that the new Board members will be Kristy Geppert and Samantha Harre, as they replace Dave Gutjahr and Kevin Bauza, while re-elected members include Jeff Bergmann and Mark Snead. The installation of Board members will be at the May meeting, once the election is official. Peterson also reported how things went with the online PARCC test. He said they never had more than 25 students taking the test at one time and they were having issues, which were generally minor ones, as it was more of just a pain. It lagged the kids back a little bit, some couldn’t get logged in, there were some JAVA errors and JAVA pop up errors. He said once everyone got in, none of the computers turned off unless someone hit a cord and it was pretty smooth. If it was affecting a small school like Oakdale, he can’t image what problems schools with 500 students taking it at one time ran into. They made it through this round and will see how it goes with the next round later this school year. The Board approved of the 2015-2016 school calendar and the teachers have an in-service day on August 14th, while the students return on Monday, August 17th. Snead will again be the representative for the school to the Kaskaskia Special Education District. Field trips were approved with kindergarten through 4th grade going to the Magic House and 5th through 8th grade going to the Science Center. Peterson said the Book Fair is this week through Thursday with a 1st – 2nd Grade basketball game with the concession stand open. Everyone is invited for a fun family night. There is a school dance scheduled for Friday, April 24th from 6:30 to 9:30 for 5th through 8th graders. Also, kindergarten registration and screening will be on Monday, April 27th. The Academic and Sports Awards are on May 19th with Graduation on May 26th. The last day for students is on May 27th, while the teachers will have 2 in-service days after that. In personnel moves, the Board accepted the resignation of Shirley Buss as cook.
