The Rend Lake College Board of Trustees met Tuesday night and they saw a presentation from students in the Graphic Design program, led by Professor Jennifer Tarantino Linsin, regarding ways to upgrade the Vocational Building, which currently houses the program. They suggested options including demolition of walls to free up space, creation of an area for collaboration and relaxation, implementation of a showcase area, and more. RLC President Terry Wilkerson said he appreciated the group’s efforts and that administrators will be considering their ideas. They approved a measure granting in-district resident status for tuition purposes to those students using federal Chapter 30 Montgomery G.I. Bill effective July 1st. In August 2013, a law was passed deeming people using federal Post-9/11 Veterans Education Assistance to be in-district residents for tuition purposes regardless of their physical residency. Per additions to the Choice Act and Public Act 98-0306, students using Chapter 30 Montgomery G.I. Bill will be added to that group. In personnel news, they granted permission to advertise for a Records Specialist in the Student Records Department. Student Records will assume the responsibility of verifying and maintaining student identification and residency requirements information. This full-time position will be the result of combining the current part-time and student worker positions. The Board accepted the low bid of $72,100 from Geissler Roofing of Belleville for replacement of the EPDM roof on the North Oasis. Geissler was the lowest of five bids received. The project will be funded by Protection, Health and Safety funds. The board approved two new courses – Branded Controllers and Industrial PCs, and Adult Secondary Education Math Only – and authorized their submission to the Illinois Community College Board for action. They approved the 2015-2016 Nursing Handbook, the 2015-2016 Health Information Technology Professional Practicum Experiences Handbook, and the 2015-2016 Health Information Technology Handbook. They then granted permission to seek bids for banking depository services for the period of July 1, 2015, through June 30, 2020. The current agreement for services with Old National Bank is set to expire June 30, 2015. The Board also approved a side letter to the 2013-2017 collective bargaining agreement between the college and Laborer’s Local Number 1197 addressing changes to the leave policy and insurance policy, as well as a side letter to the 2013-2017 collective bargaining agreement between the college and the Federation of Teachers Local Number 3708 addressing changes to the insurance policy.
