The Washington County Relay For Life was held on Saturday in the Nashville Primary School because of the rain during the afternoon and threat of more at night. Co-chair Nancy Newby says this always means fewer people come out for the event to raise money to combat cancer, but also to recognize those that have survived a battle with cancer and those that did not. Newby says the goal is to collect $80,000 this year, as they have raised over $1.2 million over the past 18 years. There were over 425 luminarias sold and over 250 purple bows sold and put up in Washington County prior to the event. Newby says it isn’t too late to still raise money for this year. They are keeping the Relay open until the end of August. Unfortunately it was a rainy night, but there is still time to raise money, as there are lots of events planned, including a yard sale at Washington County Hospital and there’s a Cosmic Bingo sponsored by the Moose Lodge in June. If anyone wants to make a donation, they have until the end of August to do so.
