The Washington County Sheriff’s Department responded to only a couple of accidents and assisted one motorist in the past week. One accident was last Wednesday on Route 127, when a vehicle driven by 68-year old Paul A. Heimann of Albers was traveling west, when his pick-up truck left the south side of the roadway and struck a ditch embankment. It continued west for approximately 150 feet in the ditch before stopping. Heimann was not injured but his passenger was and was taken to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. There was no mention of any citations being issued. The other accident was a one-car crash on U.S. Highway 51, north of Ashley. The driver, 24-year old Leonardo A. Morales of Centralia was allegedly the driver who fled the scene before deputies could arrive, so several citations have been issued in his name. Other calls included taking a report of criminal damage to property from a resident on Jefferson Street in Ashley, responding to a residence on Covington Road near Okawville for a disorderly conduct investigation, receiving a report of debris on Interstate 64 near mile marker 44, assisting the Percy Police Department and the Department of Children and Family Services with an investigation on Honeysuckle Road, spoke to a resident of rural Centralia about a fraud complaint, responded to a report of littering in Irvington Township, received a report of animals in the roadway on Route 15 at the intersection with County Highway 13, spoke with residents of rural Nashville about a civil matter, assisted the Nashville Police with a traffic stop, received a report of burglary occurring in Covington, responded to the Okawville Police Department in reference to an aggravated assault and reported an abandoned vehicle on Route 127, north of New Minden. Deputies arrested 30-year old Amy Jo Barker of DuQuoin for an outstanding warrant from Saint Clair County. They also responded to a report of someone slashing tires and arrested 22-year old Brandon S. Nangle of Irvington for Criminal Damage to Property. On Friday, they initiated a traffic stop and arrested 61-year old Roland Akin of Ashley for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful participation in methamphetamine production. He was also cited for speeding. Meanwhile, 22-year old Keith Gregg of Centralia was arrested for unlawful participation of meth production and 20-year old Christopher Gallatin of Centralia was arrested for unlawful participation of meth production, unlawful possession of meth precursor, unlawful possession of meth, and unlawful possession of a hypodermic syringe. Then on Sunday, they responded to the Okawville area in reference to an aggravated assault. 24-year old Sarah E. McManus of Nashville was charged with 3 complaints of Aggravated Assault and for Harassment through Electronic Communications. She was located at a building on the 100 block of North Mill Street in Nashville by the Nashville Police Department and was taken to the Washington County Jail.
