The Hoyleton Grade School Board of Education held a special meeting on Thursday night to install the new members to the Board, as they won their spots during the election, almost. Superintendent Elaine Hemker says Charlene Herrmann and Brooke Kehn were write-in candidates for the 2-year unexpired term, but were tied after the results were finalized. There would have been some sort of tie breaker, such as a coin toss, but Kehn did not show up to the meeting and thus Herrmann was declared the winner. Also, Mark Habeck won his spot back during the election, but then withdrew his desire to remain on the Board, so the next person on the ballot not originally elected, was appointed and that went to Lisa Ferrell. Megan Barnett and Lester Kretzer II were voted in. The officers were then elected and Larry Unverferht was re-elected as President, Barnett is the Vice President and Dave Hake is the Secretary. Nancy Jansen was voted to be the Recording Secretary and Diane Bierman was again named the Treasurer. The meeting time will remain on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 7 PM in the Library. They did discuss several items on the annexation process with Nashville Grade School. Hemker says this mainly deals with what to do with the school, property and other items. The Board approved to sell the main building at a public auction. They also approved to begin the bid seeking process for the portable buildings, including the 2 trailers, the barn and the greenhouse. The Astronomy building will stay with Nashville. Hemker also reports that they have been getting multiple requests for various pieces of equipment, like desks, chairs and books from various entities, such as other schools. She will present this information at the next meeting as well.
