The Rend Lake College Board of Trustees met Tuesday night and went over the results of the election.  Incumbent board members David Asbery, Eric Black and Randall Crocker ran unopposed for seats on the RLC Board of Trustees and were re-elected last month.  They were officially seated Tuesday. Officers also were elected with Black as the Chairman, Randy Rubenacker as the Vice-Chairman and John Kabat as Secretary.  In addition, Angie Kistner, Vice President of Finance and Administration, was reappointed board treasurer.  The Board then approved three new occupational certificates – Cyber Security Specialist, Certified Production Technician, and Esthetics – and authorized their submission to the Illinois Community College Board for action. In addition, several new courses and changes to existing courses also were approved.  The Cyber Security Specialist certificate will give students the necessary knowledge and skills to detect and mitigate cyber-attacks.  The Certified Production Technician certificate will provide the foundational knowledge and skill sets applicable for entry- to mid-level production technician jobs in the manufacturing industry.  It is designed for those wanting to enter the manufacturing field as production line workers as well as experienced employees wishing to seek Manufacturing Skill Standards Council certification.  Four courses related to this certificate also were approved: Safety, Manufacturing Processes and Production, Maintenance Awareness, and Quality Practices and Management.  The Esthetics program will be located at Studio RLC at the RLC MarketPlace in Mount Vernon and is related to the slate of programming housed there, including Cosmetology, Barbering and Nail Technology.  The curriculum includes professional ethics, personal hygiene, sterilization and sanitation, skin analysis, scientific concepts in skin care, and special esthetics procedures.  Seven new courses associated with the Esthetics certificate also were approved and authorized for ICCB submission: Esthetics Theory I-III, Esthetics Clinic I-III, and Internship.  The new Mine Rescue – Fire Brigade I and II courses were approved, the title of the Computer Maintenance course was changed to Computer Technologies, the Cisco Routing and Switching certificate was renamed Computer Networking, and the credit hour totals for Tutor Training and Mentor Training were changed from three to two and from two to one, respectively.  Also, the board approved articulation agreements with two institutions concerning RLC’s Graphic Design Associate in Applied Science Degree program.  Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, articulated its Bachelor of Science Degree in Graphic Design Communications, and Rocky Mountain College of Arts + Design articulated its Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design.  These agreements allow students to seamlessly transfer to either of these institutions upon completion of the required coursework at RLC.  Permission was granted to create the position, approve the job description and advertise for a Medical Assistant Program Director.  The position is required for accreditation of the Medical Assistant program, which RLC will begin offering this fall.  Sarah Roberts was employed on a temporary full-time basis as Lead Child Care Provider for the toddler room at the Rend Lake College Foundation Children’s Center.  Juliana Karcher was employed as Records Specialist in the Student Records Department effective May 18th.  She has been working part-time in this position since July 2014.  In other business, the Board accepted the bid from Peoples National Bank for the providing of banking depository services during the fiscal years 2016 through 2020.  Commencement will be on Saturday, May 16th at 10 AM and 1 PM in the Waugh Gymnasium.
