Updating a story from the end of last month, a housing authority security officer in southwest Illinois has been charged with shooting someone in the back while under the influence of cocaine.  The Saint Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 48-year old Arthur Sargent, of East Saint Louis, faces multiple counts, including aggravated battery – discharge of a firearm.  Saint Clair County State’s Attorney Brendan Kelly says Sargent surrendered on Friday.  Bail was set at $75,000.  The shooting occurred at the John DeShields Housing Complex in East Saint Louis last month as officers investigated burglary reports.  Security officers are deputized sheriffs and are permitted to carry guns.  Sargent allegedly confronted a 20-year old East Saint Louis man and then shot him in the back.  His injuries weren’t life-threatening.
