Three Sunday’s ago, we aired a Magazine on the V program about the Holocaust of World War II and the projects the English IV Honors class students at Nashville High School were putting together. The students were to take their completed projects to the public and tell them about their person involved in the Holocaust. Senior Maddie Reuss was our guest and spoke of Irena Sendler, as she tried to save the children from the Holocaust and death. Ruess talked about the purpose of the projects. It wasn’t really to look at what happened during the Holocaust, including all the bad things, but to understand why it happened. They also learned that keeping silent about things like this can harm and trigger the problems, which can grow into genocide. All of the projects are available to the public for viewing on a website the class put together. If you have a moment, check it out at passingthetorch.wix.com/witnesstheholocaust. Every project was unique in sharing the information of a Holocaust survivor, victim, rescuer, liberator or resister. Students created videos, websites, presentations, songs, letters or simply sat down with individuals and shared the story of someone who was involved in the Holocaust. After viewing one, several or all of the projects, the students ask you to pass the torch, as they ask you to help them and share these stories with other people and enlighten the world.
