The Washington County Health Department is sponsoring another day of electronic waste recycling on Saturday from 9 AM to noon at the Nashville Community Center parking lot. These events allow residents of the county to properly dispose of their electronics, instead of them being thrown out, harming the environment and cutting down on landfill waste. Basically, anything that plugs into an outlet that works or not, such as computers, stereo equipment, appliances, and even rechargeable batteries, will be accepted. Sharon Frederking, Director of the WCHD, says more televisions are brought in than anything else, but they aren’t being accepted anymore. The company they currently use is no longer accepting TVs, and they have not been successful in finding any other company that is currently accepting televisions, but they want to let the public know this, so they don’t bring TVs for recycling. The WCHD will continue to look for another avenue for the August recycling day. There is a location in Centralia that is still accepting televisions, but it costs $5 per TV. RNA Worldwide will bring in trucks to be loaded up and then they will tear the items apart and recycle them. Back in April, they had 15,840 pounds of items brought in, but 2 of the trucks didn’t get recorded, so it was more like 25,000 pounds. Items not accepted include light bulbs, paint, tires, plastic, chemicals, wood, hazardous materials or waste.
