It’s a big weekend in Okawville as it is the 33rd Annual Heritage Days Festival, sponsored by the Heritage House Museum Association.  Charlie Meier is one of the people in charge of the event and he says there will be plenty of food, music, food, sales, food, crafts, food, tours of a historic site, food and more tomorrow and Sunday.  The hours are from 10 AM to 5 PM each day.  There are plenty of homemade pies, including rhubarb, gooseberry, strawberry, apple and cherry, all to be topped off with a scoop of freshly churned ice cream.  Then, when you get close to the front door of the museum, the smell of about 150 loaves of fresh bread will hit you.  Meier says that you can top that off with some apple butter.  They will have a pork chop dinner on Sunday, but throughout the weekend they will have pork steaks, bratwursts, hot dogs, and as Okawville is German, they have German potato salad and potato pancakes.  There will also be kettle corn available.  He says they have such a wide variety of food, that if you can’t find something to eat, you must not be very hungry.  The event is centered around the Schlosser Complex at 114 West Walnut Street.  Besides visiting the farm, there will be music on Saturday and Sunday.  Other events include a flea market, a farmer’s market, a country store and yard sales throughout the area.  There also games for the kids, including live turtle races and backyard bowling.  For more information, call the Okawville Tourism Office at 243-5694.  It’s a great way to experience the old ways in Okawville, plus enjoy plenty of good food both days.
