On Sunday at approximately 9 PM, the Mount Vernon Police Department responded to a robbery at King City Liquors, located at 307 South 12th Street. The offender had approached an employee at the drive up window to make a transaction. The offender stole a small amount of cash from the employee’s hand and fled on foot. During the subsequent investigation patrol officers developed a suspect and made contact with him at 511 South 15th Street. The offender, Sherman Dupree, was taken into custody on charges of Robbery and Obstructing Identification. Evidence associated with the robbery were also seized from inside the residence. Dupree is currently incarcerated in the Jefferson County Justice Center with bond to be set. He was released in April from the Illinois Department of Corrections when his four-year concurrent sentence for felony burglary and criminal damage to property out of Jackson County was completed.
