An Illinois state representative has launched a petition to keep the Sparta shooting complex open. Representative Jerry Costello II launched the petition in light of Governor Bruce Rauner’s announced plan to close the World Shooting and Recreational Complex. Rauner announced the plan to close the complex on Friday, June 12th. Though the planned closure will not affect the Grand American World Trapshooting Championships in August, other events, including the annual Saint Jude’s Shoot on September 5th to benefit the Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, would not be held at the complex. Costello’s petition asks the governor to keep the complex open and keep those events in Sparta.
