Rescue crews in southwestern Illinois had to evacuate about 40 people from an area hit by flooding in the city of Centreville. KSDK-TV reports that emergency personnel went door to door Friday afternoon. A few residents refused to leave despite flood waters that reached 4 feet in places. Kendra Smith was evacuated with several young children and a dog. She says she had to walk in water up to her stomach to get her car out. Emergency responders say heavy rain water settled in a low-lying area of about four blocks.
