A Sunday morning fire has claimed the life of a Mount Vernon woman.  At approximately 11:22 AM, a 911 call came into the Mount Vernon Dispatch Center reporting a residence at 301 Harrison Street was on fire.  Upon arrival, fire crews found the residence with heavy smoke and fire showing from the front of the residence.  A resident, 47-year old Tamara R Malin, died as a result of injuries sustained in the fire.  The Office of the State Fire Marshal along with the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office was notified to respond to the scene to investigate the fire death.  At this time, the investigation is ongoing with the MVFD, OSFM, Mount Vernon Police Department and the coroner’s office.  If you have any further information, please call the Mount Vernon Police Department at 618-242-2131.
