The Washington County Sheriff’s Department responded to a few accidents and assisted a few motorists in the past week.  Last Monday, they reported that 44-year old Jeffery M. Smith of Coulterville drove his semi-tractor trailer truck off the road and struck a ditch, causing the trailer to overturn, which caused the semi to be pulled into a field.  There were no injuries and no citations issued.  A week ago, they assisted the Illinois State Police with the 2-vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 15 and County Highway 13.  Also, last Tuesday, there was a hit-and-run on Interstate 64 near mile marker 49, as a vehicle driven by 29-year old Anthony Guffey of Okawville was struck by a tractor trailer semi, which failed to stop after the crash.  No injuries were reported.  Also, Tuesday, 51-year old Clarence L. McCarthy of Herman, Missouri was driving a semi-tractor trailer truck, when a tire blew and the rubber struck a car driven by 61-year old Tommy D. Godwin of Yale, Iowa.  Again, no injuries or citations issued.  Other calls included arresting 35-year old Airron L. Boyce of Centralia on a Washington County Warrant, responding to an address in Venedy for a report of suspicious activity on a couple of occasions, they returned a phone call to an Oakdale resident regarding IRS fraud, took a report of theft from a motor vehicle from a Marissa resident, took a report of burglary to a motor vehicle occurring in rural Venedy and responded to County Highway 22 and Middle Creek Road for a report of a tree in the roadway on Thursday.  Deputies removed the tree from the roadway.
