The Washington County Hospital Board of Trustees met last night for their June meeting. It was delayed a week, as they did not have enough members present to conduct business last week. The Board approved of the Prevailing Wage Rate resolution, which is an annual vote. They also discussed the renovation of the West Wing Nurse’s Station and the Hallway. The plans were put together by Lawrence Group out of Saint Louis. The overall design closes some doors and creates one way in and out, but creates more space. It will also be more efficient with all the panels on one wall and the wires cleaned up, as they have been just hanging. The current layout was done approximately 35 years ago and is not functionable. There will also be flooring and painting done. The staff was in agreement on the plan and the Board approved of sending the project to bid letting. Once everything is ordered, it should take 2 to 3 weeks to complete. Chief Executive Officer Nancy Newby gave the annual Auxiliary Report, saying the volunteers donated a couple pieces of equipment in the past year, including a treadmill for the physical rehabilitation room and an EKG machine. She reported that the auxiliary group has donated over $568,551.95 in equipment and items since they started in 1963. Not only do they donate items, but they donate their time. This group is also renovating their gift shop and she recommends anyone visiting the hospital to stop by, as they have extra hours now. The hospital received a couple of $5,000 grants. One will go towards disease management with an emphasis on diabetic education. This will include programs and an ongoing clinic. The other grant is for software purchases to help them estimate the cost report on a monthly basis. Newby reported that the Nascote Health Fair was another big success. They did 262 health fair profiles, 147 P.S.A.s and 262 A.I.C.s during the visit, as well as having 5 booths with information on various hospital services. They also issued coupons for those on vacation, so there were another 8 employees came in the following week for the tests.
