Updating a story from Monday, a weekend traffic crash in Jefferson County has claimed the life of a 17-year old Salem man.  Roudey Hensley succumbed Tuesday afternoon to the injuries he suffered in Saturday night’s crash that injured four other Salem teens in the same car.  The Illinois State Police reported a multiple vehicle injury crash, Saturday, at approximately 11 PM on Route 148 at North Triton Lane in Jefferson County that sent several people to hospitals.  According to the preliminary report, a pickup truck driven by 23-year old Quentin Metje of Ina was traveling northbound on Triton Lane approaching the Route 148 intersection.  A car driven by a 16-year old male from Salem was traveling northeast on Route 148 approaching Triton Lane.  Metje failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection and struck the car.  The teen driver and four passengers from the car, 20-year old Alex Phillips, two other 16-year olds, one male and one female, as well as Hensley, all from Salem, were transported to area hospitals.  Hensley was airlifted to a Saint Louis hospital with major injuries.  Metje and his passenger, 27-year old Matthew Stanley of Mount Vernon, were uninjured.  The crash remains under investigation at this time, but Metje was issued citations for driving under the influence of alcohol and disobeying a traffic control device.  Metje was taken to the Jefferson County jail and additional charges are pending.
