The Nashville High School Board of Education met last night and heard from Superintendent Ernie Fowler about what was discussed at the latest Facilities Committee Meeting. Much of the discussion centered on the football stadium, but not the field. One topic was on a need to replace the main bleacher section on the south side of the field. He said he has been talking to FGM, the architect firm the school uses, about ideas on what to do and cost estimates to do the work. Those are coming upon a time that they will need to be replaced, but he thinks this project would be covered under the Health, Life & Safety Fund, as it would be permissible under that fund. The second thing that needs to be addressed is the lighting poles at the football field, which has been discussed before. A year or so ago it was brought to the attention of the Board that the lighting needs to be more structurally sound and small steps were taken on a temporary basis then to make them safe, but that was not a long term solution. This will also impact the bleacher project and how they are set. Also, he believes the current poles will have to come down and moved, so it will probably be a 2 phase project. Again, Fowler is talking with the architect on ideas and costs. He says this will not be covered under the Health, Life & Safety Fund, so alternative sources of funding will be needed. Finally, the committee talked about having as much floor tile removed as possible during the school year, as will fit in the budget set aside for the project. This will lessen the work needing to be done next summer. The plan is to do some overnight, when no one is around.
